This is technically day 3 in Hawaii, but it really feels like day 2. I was pretty much in a daze for most of yesterday but I got a good night's sleep last night and reckon I'll get out and some Hawaii things today. Ok, yes, yesterday I did go down to the beach. And yes, it was technically in the middle of a tropical storm, and yes, technically there were signs posted that said the beach was closed. But there were like little kids with water-wings playing around in the waves just down the beach. How dangerous could it be?
For some unknown reason it was cheaper for me to fly from San Francisco to Seattle and then to Hawaii than it was to fly from San Francisco directly. But, you know, when it comes to the airline industry, I just prefer not to ask questions. I'm just thankful if me and my luggage get to wherever I'm going.
A lot going on and I've been bad at updating things. First things first, I leave for Hawaii on Monday for Vach's wedding. That should be fun. I've never been to Hawaii and I am hoping to (in addition to seeing Vach and Kendra married) see a volcano and a sea tortoise. I have modest goals. There may also be some relaxing on the beach; covered in sunscreen, because my extreme whiteness will not permit me to actually have any real exposure to the sun. Fortunately, I live in San Francisco, so this is rarely an issue.
Update on stuff. Last week I went up to Seattle for Vach's bachelor party. While there I figured I might as well work out of the Seattle office for a couple of days. And, it so happens, I managed to be in Seattle during the middle of a rather ridiculous heat wave. And, to make matters extra surreal, my friend from EA, Ollie, happened to be visiting Seattle at the same time, so I grabbed lunch with him one day.
Ok, let me chronicle the events:
My mother just called to tell me she heard about a big muni accident at the West Portal station in San Francisco. Evidently two muni trains collided (well, one rear ended the other). 47 people were injured, 4 seriously and 20 total were taken to the airport. The San Francisco Chronicle has a story about it.
Leyla's birthday was on Friday and we had an entire weekend of celebrating. Yes. An entire weekend. So, to start with we went to dinner at Michael Mina. And, all I can say is that it was quite possibly the single best food I have ever eaten in my entire life.
Yesterday was meant to be an update day, but I got sidetracked with spending the better part of the day at the doctor's and then felt compelled to hammer away at some work stuffs that I hadn't managed to tackle during the day. The good news is that my blood sugar levels are like super way under control. So take that pancreas! Who needs you anyway. Everyone has been asking me if it's been hard to adjust and, you know, not really.
I know I promised to stick to a regular updating schedule and I know I failed horribly over the past week. But, things have been crazy. So, let us play some catch up.
Well, so far so good with regard to me keeping up with my blogging schedule. Let's see: first, I discovered a rather neat little Amazon S3 client coded in python called S3cmd. This is notable mostly because I've been working on just such a thing in my spare time for the past year or so. Obviously, I haven't had enough spare time.
Despite yesterday being rather windy, it has been a pretty nice weekend so far. This afternoon has been warm and only a little breezy. I grabbed a cup of coffee from Bernie's and came back and did a little programming. Then I called my Dad for Father's day. So far so good. All in all this has been a pretty relaxing weekend. A bit later I think I may be making a trip to a hardware store for various supplies and then groceries. Hooray groceries! They're good for eating.
