I'm King of the World!

Today I went sailing. And so, by extension, I am now a sailor. I've never been sailing before. I'm not too fond of the ocean. But it was fun. I think I may do it again, even though I am still not fond of the ocean. Anyway, so Vic has been taking sailing lessons since like August or something and this was his first time being the skipper of a boat. Before the yacht club would let him charter a boat on his own, however, he needed one other certified person (this cool guy named Ray) and one able bodied person.

I am so able bodied it's ridiculous.

SXSW Wrap Up

Well, now that SXSW is over and I managed to survive it, I figured it'd be a good idea to wrap things up with a final post. First off, days #5 and #6 were relatively uneventful. I spent the fifth day (Monday) largely taking a breather from the panels -- fortunately there wasn't much on the schedule that I was interested in -- so instead I spent the afternoon wandering around downtown Austin (pictures up on my flickr page). This was time well spent.

SXSW Day #3 & #4

Day 3 of SXSW Interactive was actually pretty damned incredible. The panels were (for the most part) quite interesting and the after parties bordered on epic. Day 4 was spent initially recovering from Day 3, but the panels weren't overly interesting so instead I spent the day walking around downtown Austin.

SXSW Day 2

Again, I caught two panels today. The first was CSS3 Design with HTML 5 and it was absolutely incredible. Well, ok, not absolutely incredible but it was extremely informative. I will say this: HTML 5 and CSS 3 look pretty damn sexy, and I will have to do some reading up on the specs, browser compatibility and other tips, tricks and neat little things you can do. But, in the meantime, here's a few links for you:

SXSW Day #1

Today is the first day of the SXSW Interactive and I am most definitely in attendance. I got in last night around 7:30 PM but didn't get to the hotel until 8:30. The flight(s) were fine, had a quick layover in Denver, but the flights were pretty unremarkable. I mostly read. I did not, however, get an opportunity to eat much of anything the entire day. So the first order of business after getting to the hotel was to find some food. Which I did, in the form of some rather crappy pizza. But at least it was food.

Project Management or Why Certain Groups Work and others Most definitely do not Work

Project Management, I will freely admit, is a discipline that I do not entirely understand. It seems like it would be easy enough: collect requirements, keep track of the details of progress made against said goals, identify problems hopefully before they come up, and chart a course through problems when they do arise. And, yet, project management remains mercurial and mysterious. Hell, I think most Project Managers would find it hard pressed to fully articulate what leads to successful project management vs. unsuccessful project management.

Achoo!

Arrrrgh. I have gotten round 2 of the dreaded winter cold. Fortunately, I'm feeling much better today. I stayed home yesterday and today to both recuperate and also to spare my coworkers from my sniffling and throat clearing. I also discovered that the nasal spray I had been using expired 3 years ago. Which explains why it wasn't working. So I got a new bottle today. It works now and I feel much better. Hooray!

More Zombies Fun

Well, there appears to have been quite the uproar regarding the zombie baby pic that I posted. Let me address a few things:

  • The picture was taken as part of a zombie walk in Manchester. You can read it all on the Baby Zombie -- Awww thread over on reddit.
  • There are more pics on this facebook gallery, also from the Manchester Zombie Walk.

Super Bowl XLIV

I did not really watch the Super Bowl today. The Saints won. I guess that's good. I did go to the grocery store, however, and it is amazing to go shopping when no one else is there. And, yet, I also seem completely incapable of going to Andronico's and not spending almost $100. Oh well. At least I have food for another 10 days or so.

I also have been experimenting with tasty food. Here is some stir fried vegetables I threw together a few days back.

Avatar and the Parties

So, this week was pretty much exhausting. It started off with Monday night shenanigans. Armando and Scott were in town and, for reasons which are hard to explain, we ended up planting a Christmas Tree in the beach. Tuesday was a work day followed by the arrival of a mess of Lindens from around the world. This, of course, resulted in many, various and sundry excuses to celebrate and, rather unfortunately, ended up with a stop at 21st Amendment. Now, make no mistake, I like 21st Amendment.
